America’s current energy sources are bad for our families, bad for our wallets, and bad for the earth.
Scientists agree that pollution, primarily from coal-fired power plants and automobiles, causes dangerous climate change and threatens our economy, health, and environment.
Florida Can Be a Leader
The United States must commit to reducing pollution by reducing emissions by 25-40% by 2020. We must demand an end to the development of new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. We must ensure the air our children breathe is cleaner, and safer.
Florida has tremendous new energy sources such as the wind and the sun. In fact, we can generate an additional 40,000 GWh of electricity from available new energy resources. That would make total renewable power production equal to approximately 20 percent of current electricity sales. One fifth of our energy could come from natural sources right here in Florida!
Money in Your Pocket
A switch from fossil fuels to new, clean energy (like wind and sun power) will protect consumers from high fossil fuel prices AND create new jobs in clean energy industries.
And, if we don’t act, climate change could cost Florida $25 billion by 2025 and up to $98 billion by 2050. Eliminating climate change will save Florida taxpayers billions.
What’s more: reducing the pollution that causes climate change will create new economic development and hence, new high-quality jobs. Even modest targets for energy efficiency can create 20,000 new jobs in Florida.
